BASED UPON SELF AT LAMYLAND

Based Upon are presenting their first collection of wearable sculptures: Based Upon Self as part of Lamyland x Selfridges on the 24th February. 

Based Upon are artists. Their first collection of wearable sculptures are THE OBJECTS OF their travels. Like every one of Based Upon’s sculptures, each wearable piece is the result of an individual journey, carrying stories like a modern relic. 

Most recently, Based Upon’s journeys have taken them from landscape to body, in pursuit of stillness. 

Studying the macroscopic breath of natural landscapes, and the rhythms of breath within their own bodies, Based Upon are exploring the place of ritual and meditation in finding peace. Based Upon’s wearable sculptures are offered as tools -  amulets to help the wearer find stillness within the movements of the everyday:

IN RESPONSE TO LAMYLAND’S INVOCATION ‘WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOR?’, THIS SPECIAL EDITION OF BASED UPON’S FRAGMENTED CRACK RING COMES IN 2, 3 OR 4 PIECES WORN ACCROSS THE HAND. IT EVOKES A PRIMITIVE WEAPON AND A TALISMAN OF THE MEDITATIVE STATE. BORNE OF RITUAL, IT BEARS ITS INTENTION AS AN INSCRIPTION IN BRONZE OR SILVER, ‘WE TOO SHALL BE FREE’.
